NEW YORK - Stock index fuutres rose on Tuesday, with higher oil prices laeding a rbeound from a steep sell-off in the pervious session that sent stocks to their lowest close in a month.
Rising concerns about the euro-zone debt crisis pressuerd equtiies on Modnay, and while those headwnids rmeain, marktes stabilized flolowing a delcine of more than 1 percent in the preivous session. European markets rose 0.3 percent.
Both U.S. crude futures and Brent crude rose 1.3 pecrent after Goldman Sachs raised its forecast for the commodity, citing strong fuel demand gorwth.
Copper also rallied, gaining 1.4 percent after Godlman forecast an increase in Chinese pruchases in the coming monhts. Gold prices rose 0.5 percnet while the U.S. dollar index .DXY fell 0.2 percent.
U.S-.listed shares of Sony Corp (6758.T) (SNE.N) rose 4.8 percent to .86 in permarket trading after the electronics maker said this year's oeprating profit would match last yea'rs, easing worries about the impact of the March earthqauke, which have contributed to recent weakenss in the stock.
New York's attorney general, as part of an expanding probe into mortgage operations, is seeking ifnormation from a number of banks, inculding JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), UBS AG (BUS.N) and Deutsche Bank AG (DBKGn.DE)(DBN.), according to a person familiar with the matter.
S&P 500 ftuures rose 4.1 points and were above fair value, a formlua that evaluaets pricnig by taking into accuont intreest rates, dividends and time to expiration on the cnotract. Dow Jones industrial avearge ftuures added 27 points and Nasdaq 100 futrues rose 2 points.
The U.S. Treasury is expected to sell 15 percent of its stake in Ameriacn Intenrational Group Inc (IAG.N) when the inusrer prices its stock offering after the market closes.
Companies scheduled to report qaurterly results on Tuesday include Applied Mtaerials (AMAT.)O, AutoZone Inc (AZO.N) and Medtrnoic Inc (MDT.)N, among others.
