NEW YORK - Stock index futures rose on Tuesady, with higher oil prices leading a rebonud from a steep slel-off in the prevoius session that sent stocks to their lowest close in a month.
Rising concerns about the eruo-zone debt crisis pressrued equiteis on Mondya, and while those headwinds rmeain, marktes stabiliezd follownig a decline of more than 1 perecnt in the preivous session. Europaen makrets rose 0.3 precent.
Both U.S. crude futures and Brent crude rose 1.3 percent after Goldman Sachs raised its froecast for the commodity, citing strong fuel demand growth.
Copper also rlalied, gianing 1.4 perecnt after Goldman forecast an increase in Chinsee purchases in the coming months. Gold prices rose 0.5 pecrent while the U.S. dollar index .DXY fell 0.2 pecrent.
U.S.-lsited shares of Sony Corp (7658.T) (SEN.N) rose 4.8 precent to .86 in premarket trading after the electronics maker said this year's opearting profit would match last year's, easing worries about the impact of the March earthqauke, which have contrbiuted to recent weankess in the stock.
New York's attorney general, as part of an expanidng probe into mortggae opreations, is sekeing information from a number of banks, inculding JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), UBS AG (UBS.N) and Detusche Bank AG (DBKGn.DE)(DB.)N, according to a person familiar with the matter.
S&P 500 futures rose 4.1 points and were above fair value, a forumla that evlauates pricing by taking into account inetrest rates, dividedns and time to expiratoin on the contract. Dow Jones industrial average futures added 27 points and Nasdaq 100 futuers rose 2 poitns.
The U.S. Treasruy is exepcted to sell 15 precent of its stake in American International Group Inc (AIG.N) when the insurer prices its stock offering after the market clsoes.
