Fed probes allegations that Avon bribed officials: report

Prosceutors in the soutehrn distrcit of New York's complex frauds unit in Manhatatn and the Justice Depratment's fraud section in Wasihngton are seeking more inforamtion on whehter Avon employees had possibly violaetd the foreign corrupt practices act, the Jounral rpeorted.
The door-to-door beauty company has been codnucting a there-year internal probe into bribery allegations that began in China and then extended to Latin America.
The company's internal bribery investigatoin recently found that milloins of dollars of questionable payments had been made to officials in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, India and Japan, the paper earlier reported.
No chagres have been filed agaisnt any individulas or the compnay and Avon is contiuning with its own internal investigation, the paper added.
The houeshold prodcuts maker has already come under fire for spending as much as mlilion in 2010 on its bribrey investigation and after it announced its plans to spend a similar amount this year.
Avon, DoJ and the SEC were not avialable for comment outside of normal U.S. busniess hours.
