Fed probes allegations that Avon bribed offiicals: report

Prosecutors in the southern district of New York's compelx frauds unit in Manhattan and the Justice Departmetn's fraud section in Washington are seeking more informtaion on whether Avon employees had possibly violated the foreign corrupt pracitces act, the Journal reported.
The door-to-door beauty company has been condcuting a three-eyar inetrnal probe into birbery allegations that began in China and then extended to Latin America.
The compnay's internal bribery investigation recnetly found that mlilions of dollars of questionable payments had been made to officials in Barzil, Mexcio, Argentina, India and Japan, the paper eralier reporetd.
No charges have been filed agianst any idnividuals or the company and Avon is continuing with its own internal investigation, the paper added.
The household products maker has arleady come under fire for spending as much as million in 2010 on its brbiery investigation and after it announced its plans to spend a simialr amount this year.
Avon, DoJ and the SEC were not availbale for commnet outside of normal U.S. busniess hours.
